With that, let's step into the final part of Breaking the Sin Cycle. Part 6: How to change our habits in order to facilitate a lifestyle empowered by the Holy Spirit to walk in freedom from the sin cycle in order to bless the nations and advance the Kingdom of God.
There were 4 four major points we want to help you take away for this final part in our series:
1. Habits cannot in and of themselves save you and set you free.
2. Habits play an important role AFTER sin has been killed.
3. What we treasure in our hearts determines how live.
4. When Christ is our treasure, changing our habits to find the treasure in all aspects of our lives becomes a natural expression of love.
We first explained why we believe that habits in and of themselves do not have any power to change us. This is why we waited to cover this topic until the end of the series. The last thing we want is for you to white knuckle your way against sin.
In light of that fact, what role do habits play in helping us walk in freedom? We explained how after dying to sin, our habits help us live to God and sow to the Spirit rather than to the flesh.
We then discussed the reality that our lives are ultimately a manifestation of the things we treasure most. We went over a small exercise to help us assess what it is we treasure. We had you find a quiet place for you to be alone with God with something to write with and something to write on. We then had you pray and ask a series of questions in two parts.
Part 1: What do I treasure most? What is most important to me? What do I care about most? What are my top priorities in life?
Part 2: Why? Why did I answer part 1 the way I did? When did these things become important to me? What makes them so important?
Finally, having self-assessed through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we closed the episode by explaining how the greatest treasure of all is Jesus. Knowing Him and making Him known. We addressed the tough reality that often times our greatest struggle is accepting that He is not the One we treasure most. We helped you confront this by once again pointing you back to the grace and mercy of God and exhorting you to call out to Him to help you redirect the affections of your heart.
It is our sincere desire that this series has been helpful for you in your journey to follow after Christ, to walk in the freedom He has purchased for you on the cross, and to bless the nations and advance His Kingdom.
God bless you guys, thank you so much for joining us throughout this series. Stay tuned for upcoming episodes covering all kinds of topics that impact the life of the Good and Faithful.
