With that, let's step into what we covered in part 5 of Breaking the Sin Cycle.
This episode we discussed prayer. How to pray in order to help us break free from the sin cycle. We did NOT provide magical, mystical words that somehow bind God to your will. Instead, what we tried to do in this episode is offer a perspective on prayer that would help give you the boldness we are called to when asking God to set us free from sin.
We had three main points to give you:
Pray with confidence, pray continually, and pray according to the Word of God.
To help us pray with confidence, we dove into a tremendous promise that Jesus makes in John's Gospel.
"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." (John 15:7-8 NIV)
It's an amazing promise with awesome implications. But how do we experience that? We discuss what we think is a key portion of that promise that we must understand in order to really hold on to that promise.
We also discussed the fact that Christ commanded us to pray continually. So often we get discouraged because we pray to God once and don't see the results we're expecting. But it is our Master who told us in His explanation of how to pray that encourages us to pray continually.
Then we covered how to pray according to God's Word. We've already emphasized throughout this series the need to have our minds transformed by the Word of God. In this episode, we explained how knowing the Word can inform the way we approach God in prayer.
Finally, we gave a sample prayer to help put it all together. Tune in to have a listen!
